037 Online Clickable MCQ Test 96951 in General Studies & Ms. Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal Assembly Elections

t969e. .

On 3.6.2019, Ms. Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal, has expressed her disenchantment with the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, and expressed her apprehensions about tampering of EVMs. Some of the quotes attributed to her are:--

~We want ballot papers back. We don~t want EVM. Save democracy, bring back ballot papers.~

~We will run this campaign across country with all political parties. Even America has done away with it.

~Only two per cent machines are verified, 98 per cent are not verified~

~Machines were not working and the one that were changed were not programmed for fair polling. They were pre programmed for a party.~

~One lakh machines are missing. EVM voting is not the verdict of people.~

Ms. Mamata Banerjee is one of the most courageous and stubborn leaders on Indian political arena today. But, what boggles my mind is, why Ms. Mamata Banerjee did not raise this issue of Tampering of EVMs before the 2019 Elections and insist on ballot paper based voting? She should also have boycotted the Lok Sabha Elections if the CEC, Government of India, and the Supreme Court have not given due and favorable consideration to the problem. By participating in the elections she has exposed herself to the ignominy of losing 18 seats to BJP, probably in a tampered election.

Irrespective of whether other Opposition Parties are going to support her in her pleas and demands, or not. She must have and display a courage of Conviction and adherence to basic principles and values. In the ensuing elections, Ms. Mamata Banerjee should make it clear that she will not participate, unless Ballot Based Eelctions are held. Then, the Ruling Party at Centre will not be able to say ~Had she won the Elections, she would not have found fault with EVMs. Opposition Parties will raise the issue of Tampering only when they lose. This is to opportunism of the Opposition Parties .~
